The Purity of Arms טוהר הנשק by Marmara Streisand

Here we have an anarchist punk rock band from Israel with ex-members of South African punk bands Outrage, Clandestine, Skelm Helm, Hasten the Storm... and more (Michal & Rob)

maramara Streisand is a five piece crust and roll band out of Israhell.
We came together in the winter of 2010 out of a strong need to express our aspirations in the form of lousy music. Our music is as much a product of the occupation as any other horrible thing that was born here, but we have chosen to use our frustration at society to tear down instead of build even more walls. Band members come from three continents and have played in lots of obscure and/ or crappy bands everywhere. We are united by our love of music, vegan food, unicorns and giraffes
But seriously now: being part of the local punk scene we see the lack of political content within our community. We do not wish to escape or ignore the place where we live. We don't want to pretend we live in Berlin or that we are skating in Oregon. We wish to confront the place where we live and the mentality of apartheid that surrounds us. This is not like playing a show in Alabama, thank you very much Mr. Biafra. Our music may reach a small minority that sometimes find it hard to accept our direct and radical approach to local politics but our lyrics reflect our need to confront society on a daily basis.
We don't want want shallow co-existence we want meaningful co-resistan

Shotgun Tori - Alt/Folk from Johannesburg

"Rambling through the Jozi underground indie/folk scene, alt/folk singer-songwriter, Shotgun Tori is starting to make a name for herself. A storyteller, her lyrics are dark & light, humorous & self-deprecating. Powerful vocals & jangly guitar, her music is in moments fun and upbeat, and in others gentle and heart-wrenching. (On a side note, her mother wishes that it was all gentle...)

Reared at an all-girls convent in Jhb, she moved to London at 17 and cut her teeth on tiny stages, playing to non-receptive, heckling audiences. Times have changed, as have both the stages & the audiences.

Influences include: Ryan Adams, Lucinda WIlliams, the Waifs, Martha Wainwright, The Be Good Tanyas, Ani DiFranco, Amanda Palmer and Leonard Cohen." - her facebook page

Joy Moonflower - Folk from PTA

"Pretoria, South Africa (2011 – present)
Joy Moonflower is the moniker of Joy Steyn (born 23 December, 1991 as Jessica Steyn), a self-taught musician residing in Pretoria, South Africa. Joy sings and plays guitar alone but began her foray into musicianship by playing upright bass and singing in an old two-piece blues band.

Her distinct, idiosyncratic singing has garnered comparisons to the likes of Joanna Newsom and Regina Spektor. However, her musical style is pervaded by simple guitar rhythms, unpredictable chord progressions and vocal acrobatics. A large portion of Joy’s songs are improvised and lyrics are usually made up spontaneously - often only the basic chords and chorus lines are thought up beforehand. Thus her shows are usually marked by spontaneity, the musical direction depending a lot on they way she feels at the time.

Feeling estranged and uncomfortable with the system, Joy left school at the early age of 16 to pursue and study a myriad of interests ranging from Fine Arts and Theatrical Make-up to Hairdressing and even Photography. However, in 2011 she finally found her calling and decided to expand her musical talent.

She cites her contemporary influences as Fever Ray, The Books, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Moldy Peaches, Deerhoof and The Cranberries." - Last FM

OUTRAGE // DIMINISHED RETURN - Split Tape

I was looking through blogs and found this. Its a split tape by OUTRAGE and  DIMINISHED RETURN. Outrage being one of my friend Robert(Rob the Rich)Minnaar's old bands. He played in Clandestine, Outrage, Skelm Helm, and Hasten the Storm before moving to Israel. Outrage focused mostly on animal rights from what he played me when he was here last. ...Its late so I'm just gonna do a copy and past from the "Tape Blog". I will give a link to the blog so folks can take a look at it. there are some rad mp3's albums ripped from tapes up there. http://terminalescape.blogspot.com

 OUTRAGE // DIMINISHED RETURN

"This tape was in a pile of gems that Devon placed in my care for a while, and since I know Devon as I do, I was not surprised at all to find this South African split cassette amongst the heap of Bay Area thrash metal and South American pop punk. OUTRAGE are female fronted anarcho-crust, and their three songs would have fallen right in line with bands of the same ilk making similar sounds in the US or Europe around the same time (1995), but with a drummer who seems like he'd rather be in a metal band (a pairing that works well for the most part).

With OUTRAGE I only have a lyric sheet to go on, but unfortunately the only tool at my disposal to help with DIMINISHED RETURN is a little friend I like to call "google." Also from South Africa, they farmed members off to THREE CHORD THEORY after their demise (I know this only through the website of the Malaysian band CARBURETOR DUNG), and created classic punk. "Jungle Jive" is a pure burner, and will rev your inner pogo machine to maximum RPMs (and help you recover from the flute laced first track that left you all confused inside). Great shit, with a subtle ska flare that doesn't detract in the slightest. I wish I had more from both bands to offer, but three apiece will have to suffice." - http://terminalescape.blogspot.com

ContraMundi - Anarcho Pop Punk (Cpt)

ContraMundi was a wannabe melodic punk band with screaming in all the wrong places.
The band was based in Cape Town and only ever played shows in the area. Their style had some elements of Folk, Ska, Metal, and old school Anarcho Punk but mostly fits in (i think) with the kind of melodic male/female vocaled Pop Punk bands you would find on Plan-it-X Records.

Although unnamed at the time, ContaMundi was originally ‘started’ by Shaun Richards (Rhythm Guitar,Vocals) and Jean-Paul Fickk (Lead Guitar), who jammed songs they had written, occasionally with the help of Jeremy Norman (Drums,Vocals). The band officially formed in 2007, with the addition of Hannah Molyneux (Bassist,Vocals)

Lyrics involved: Animal Rights, being residentially challenged, being picked on, feeling alone, Eskom(the largest producer of electricity in Africa and the monopoly holder in South Africa)...apples ...and the fuck heads at CapeNature.(nature conservation ass holes who for ages have been on a kill everything not indigenous to cape town mission even though everything they have targeted has been there for hundreds of years and has become a crucial part of the ecosystem, or is an endangered species!? EG. Cape Town's Table Mountain was also home to descendents of ancient Himalayan mountain goats, called Tahrs, which are nearly extinct in their native Himalayas. But the agency that oversees Table Mountain's wildlife eliminated the area's population of tahrs. They have also done really stupid shit like putting poisons into the river systems to kill non-indigenous fish... disregarding the fact that indigenous fish/frogs are in the rivers and that the people from the neighbouring squatter camps also use the water...)

This songs lyrics are direct quotes taken from prints of peoples responses in the cape times newspaper to articles printed about CapeNatures activities: ContraMundi - Feed Back

Touched By Nausea (TBN) - D-Beat from JHB ? :P

Touched By Nausea is a 6 piece hardcore punk/crust band from Roodepoort, JHB. Started in February 2005.
Bands they have shared a stage with include Solitary Confinement, AWOL, Red Brigade, Light Brigade, Skelm Helm, Hasten The Storm, The Hazards, TDKM, Gross Misconduct, Oi!Rothol, Dean & The Deadbeats, Killer Monsters, Insek, Scum Chums, and lots of Metal/Screamo bands...

TBN started as a 5 piece from 2005 to 2007. From 2007 to present, Rozanne (dual vocalist of Skelm Helm) did vocals in Brian's year absence in Europe. With Brian's return in 2008, TBN is now a 6 piece band with dual vocals. They have also adopted a new sound with the new lineup.

'Our message is basically to aware people of things that go on around them that they might not be aware of already (we don't know everything like other bands and people do)' 'Our AntiCopyright message is that we dont mind our music being copied and spread. We dont want limitations by major record labels who copyright bands. We want to cut out the middleman and take commercialism out of punk. We do feel that bands have their own creativity and we dont agree in copying ideas, lyrics, riffs etc. Just from the music sense, it can be copied.'- TBN
